Ronald “Ronnie” Doyn Fleetwood, 72

Ronald Doyn Fleetwood, 72 years, 10 months, and 15 days old, passed away on Aug. 28, 2011 at Cox Medical Center South, Springfield, Mo., from complications following cancer surgery.

Ronald was born Oct. 13, 1938 in Sweden, Mo., to Clyde and Doris (Stout) Fleetwood.

Ronnie was a lifelong resident of the Ava community. He graduated from Ava High School in 1956. He was owner of Ron’s Carpet in Ava since 1982.

On Jan. 2, 1958 he married his high school sweetheart, Phyllis Thomas in Hartville, Mo., and to this union five children were born. They shared 53 years together.

Ronnie served 28 years with the Ava Fire Department, serving as assistant chief for many years. He served two terms on the Ava City Council. He loved hunting, fishing and bowling, and spending time with his family and grandchildren. Ronnie also supported and attended the Ava sports events.  Ronnie was a Christian.

Ronnie was preceded in death by his parents.

Ronnie is survived by his wife, Phyllis Fleetwood, Ava, Mo.; five children and their spouses, Ronald “Junior” Fleetwood and Sharon, Washburn, Mo., Jeff and Dawn Fleetwood, Ava, Mo., Jalanna Cobb and Mike, Flippin, Ark., Joseph and Dinishia Fleetwood and Jarrod Fleetwood, all of Ava, Mo.; 10 grandchildren, Rob Fleetwood, Leigh Mitchell and Dustin, Neely Beattie and Justin, Ethan Cobb, Kevin Fleetwood and Brittany, Jessica Brook, Sarah Lane and Josh, Ryan Phillips and Kayla, Jessica Phillips and Dwayne and Eve Fleetwood; 12 step grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; 24 step-great-grandchildren; 12 step-great-great-granchildren; one brother and wife, James and Alice Fleetwood, Ava, Mo.; one sister and husband, Lanna and Dick Strong, Prairie Village, KS; two special friends, Dave Litwiller and Randy Heriford; many nieces, nephews, and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services for Ronnie were Wednesday, Aug. 31, at 2 p.m. in the Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava, with burial in the Ava Cemetery. Visitation was Tuesday, from 6 to 7 p.m. in the funeral home. Officiating was Pastor Oren Alcorn. Memorials may be made to Neighbor Helping Neighbor.
