JEFFERSON CITY – Missouri Public Service Commission wants to determine the potential impact of current and future Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) rules under the Clean Air and Clean Water Acts on Missouri’s electric utilities’ electric generation plants. The Commission specifically wants to determine the potential impact on reliability and costs.
In order to further study the issue, the Commission has directed the PSC staff to lead a working group to investigate and draft a report describing the effect of environmental regulations on Missouri’s electric industry and to offer recommendations on how the PSC should address the effects. The report is due no later than May 1, 2012.
The working group will include the PSC staff, the Office of the Public Counsel and the state’s four investor-owned electric utilities (Ameren Missouri, Kansas City Power & Light, The Empire District Electric Company and KCP&L Greater Missouri Operations Company). The Commission also invites consumer, industrial and environmental groups to participate.
