JV Lady Bears Start Season 5-0

The Ava Lady Bears junior varsity softball team is off to a blazing 5-0 start.

To open the 2011 season the Lady Bears traveled to Springfield to take on the Glendale Falcons. Ava used a good eye at the plate drawing six walks in three innings.

On the mound Abbie Sparnicht struck out four and walked only one in a 9-0 shutout. Tailor Stofer, Lakota Blakey and Callie Eubanks each contributed hits.

Game two brought the Liberty Eagles to town. The Lady Bears cranked out 13 hits and finished off a decisive 18-0 victory. Misty Regennitter and Sparnicht combined to strike out eight Eagles batters. Blakey led the team with two RBIs while Stofer hit an in the park home run.

The final game of the first week saw the Lady Bears take on Forsyth. Callie Eubanks led the offense with an in the park home run and collected two RBIs. Bailey Lee and Eubanks each had two hits. Ashlee Helm, Shelby Campbell, Blakey, Miranda Yost and Rachel Swofford each had hits. Sparnicht and Regennitter held Forsyth to two runs while striking out four batters. Final score was 9-2.

On Aug. 29 the Lady Bears traveled up Highway 60 to Norwood. Danielle Dye blasted a long in the park home run to drive in Regennitter who was standing at second after lacing a double through the left side of the infield.

Blakey and Eubanks accounted for Ava’s other two hits. Sparnicht and Regennitter were not as sharp allowing three runs, but the offense plated 15 to keep the JV record perfect for the season. The final score was 15-3.

On Tuesday, the Lady Bears traveled to Salem and claimed their fifth win of the season, 9-6.
