SPRINGFIELD –– Greene County SALT Council (Seniors and Law Enforcement Together) is in need of used cell phones for its Cell Phone for Seniors project.
For more than a decade, Greene County SALT and Sheriff’s Departments across the nation have been making cell phones available for seniors to call 911 in case of an emergency. To date, more than 100,000 emergency cell phones have been distributed by participating agencies nationwide. However, stock is running low and we are asking members of the community to help us fill the need. If you have an old, unused cell phone, please consider donating it to our cause.
Donated phones can be brought to the Green County Judicial Facility, 1010 Boonville, Springfield. They will be wiped clean of any personal data before donated to seniors in need.
Seniors in need of a cell phone can also visit the address above or call (417) 868-4040. To qualify for a free phone you must be a resident of Greene County and 65 years of age or older.
The mission of the Greene County SALT Council is to bring local law enforcement, seniors or senior organizations, and the community together to reduce the criminal victimization of older personas and to provide knowledge and education to keep seniors safe and secure in our community. This is done through educational and crime prevention seminars, the development of programs that directly address needs of seniors in our county, and through open communications between public safety personnel and the elderly.
