Football Bears Will Play at Home Friday Night; Teams of 1985 and 1986 Will Be Recognized

The Ava High School Bears will take the home field for the first time this season on Friday night, hosting the Willow Springs Bears in South Central Association action.

The Bears are coming in with a record of 1-0, having defeated Strafford last week, 41-19.

As the Bears gather, SCA and district championship teams of 1985 and 1986 will also meet for a reunion prior to and during the game.

Former athletic director and coach of the teams, Larry Silvey, is coordinating the event for Ava High School.

Players from these two teams, along with a guest, as well as members of the spirit groups from those seasons, will be admitted free on Sept. 2 and a meal will be provided in the north endzone prior to the 7 p.m. kickoff.

The Ava Bears Booster Club and Ava High School Student Council will provide the meal for the reunion teams.

Tables and chairs will be set up where the guests can visit while enjoying their meal, and at halftime team members and spirit group members will be introduced.

Anyone associated with these teams is urged to come and enjoy an evening of reminiscing.

Silvey pointed out that in previous years, championship teams of 1977 and 1980, as well as Ava’s first football team of 1948, have been honored similarly with a good turnout from each of those honored groups.

Any member of these teams who will be unable to attend but would like to send regards to their classmates/teammates may still do so by sending email comments to Silvey at: lmrsilvey@centurytel. net. He may also be reached by telephone at 417-683-5234.
