Ava Community Playground News

- Jackie Brooks -

Playground Core Committee meetings have been rescheduled to Monday evenings at 6:00pm at the Life Church basement. This week’s meeting was attended by quite a few people and we were able to get a good start on a fun project we’re working on and take care of some business.

With only five short weeks left before build week, focus was placed on raising funds to complete the upcoming phase of the playground build. One of our goals is to sell picket fence pieces that will enclose the entire playground. These picket fence pieces are a huge opportunity to show your support of the playground and your community. Pickets can be engraved with a wide variety of options including, but not limited to, your family’s name, kids names, your business name, a memorial message, or a favorite bible scripture, etc. The pickets are $35 for Individual Picket, $50 for Business, or $100 for a Family Set of 4.  Price includes 20 engraved characters total including letters, numbers, spaces and punctuation. There is also a white epoxy fill available that can be added to the engraved characters, which is an additional $15 per picket. These pickets will be a permanent part of the playground and a permanent reminder of those who participated in this community endeavor. Deadline for having pickets ordered is Tuesday, September 6th.

Another hot topic at the meeting was acquiring the necessary tools to build the playground. We are in need of drills, jigsaws, extension cords, wheelbarrows, shovels, etc… We’re asking for members of the community to loan us your tools or equipment for use during build week. Everything will be inventoried and we guarantee that your tools will be returned in as good or better condition as we received them, or we will replace them. That’s a promise! We have funds set aside for tool replacement and repair and we will be using our own drill/router bits and saw blades. In addition, we have arranged for 24-hour security on our tool trailer.  If you have tools to loan and/or would like to volunteer to help out with the Tools and Materials trailer, please contact our Tools Committee Leads: Zach and Lacey Slagle @ 417-683-1781 or email avaplayground@live.com.
