Tobacco cessation workshops sponsored by the Douglas County Health Department will include distribution of free nicotine replacement therapy products.
Health Department Director Sandy Pueppke said the free workshops will be held from 5:00 to 6:15 p.m. for four Thursdays in September. The workshops will be taught by department staffers Sonya Hodges and Shirley Emerson who are trained to lead the sessions.
Workshop participants that elect to break the habit may choose from nicotine-replacement gum, lozenges, or patches.
The sessions will also help participants understand why they smoke and how the habit develops. They’ll learn to understand, control and beat cravings and urges and prepare for a tobacco free life by creating a support system and developing long term strategies for success.
Workshops will be held Sept. 8, 15, 22 and 29, from 5:00 to 6:15 p.m., at MOCH Wellness Center in Ava, Mo.
Funding is provided in part by the Missouri Foundation for Health, a philanthropic organization whose vision is to improve residents’ health in Missouri communities.
