Missouri State Fair Announces Grand Champion, Reserve Grand Champion Steer

SEDALIA – Bailey Dent, of Rolla and the daughter of Justin and Erin Dent, is the exhibitor of the 2011 Grand Champion Steer at the Missouri State Fair.  Her steer weighed 1,325 pounds. She is a member of the 4-H Wranglers.

The Reserve Grand Champion Steer honor went to Evan Kempker, son of Dan and Diana Kempker from Jefferson City.  His steer weighed 1,295 pounds. He is a member of the Eugene FFA Chapter.

Bailey’s and Evan’s steers will be two of 12 lots offered in the Youth in Agriculture Sale of Champions held Aug. 20. Proceeds from the annual sale benefit both the winning exhibitors and the Missouri State Fair Youth in Agriculture Scholarship Program.

Because of the generous support of Youth in Agriculture sponsors, the Missouri State Fair is able to award scholarships to Missouri youth pursuing a degree in an agriculture-related field. Last year, thirty $1,000 scholarships and one supreme $2,500 scholarship were awarded to youth across the State.

To become a Missouri State Fair Youth in Agriculture supporter, contact Wayne Yokley at 573-690-8987 or Rodney Heimer at 573-393-2452.

The Missouri State Fair closed Sunday, Aug. 21.
