Students, Teachers Getting Ready To Go Back to School

In case you haven’t noticed, summer vacation is just about over.

Most area schools are preparing to return to classes next week, and with that comes a shift in activity schedules for just about everybody.

Skyline R-2 School will start classes on Monday, Aug. 15. The day will begin with an open house from 8 to 10 a.m., and breakfast served to parents and students in the cafeteria.

Plainview R-8 and Ava R-1 schools will open on Wednesday, Aug. 17.

Plainview School will have open house on Tuesday, Aug. 16, from 6 to 8 p.m.

Bridge replacement projects and the subsequent closing of area highways by the Missouri Department of Transportation will greatly affect school schedules this fall.

Highway 76 west of Ava at Beaver Creek will be closed on Monday, Aug. 15, for replacement of that bridge. Both Ava and Plainview bus routes will be affected by the detours that will be necessary to get around that construction site.

The Beaver Creek Bridge at Bradleyville was also removed on Monday, Aug. 1, forcing buses and school staff to seek alternate routes to and from school.

The Fox Creek Bridge on Highway 14 east of Ava near Gentryville was also being replaced this summer. That bridge was scheduled to reopen on Aug. 5, but as of Tuesday of this week was still not completed.

Angela Eden, in MoDOT’s Springfield District office, said contractors have run into problems there, but hope to have the bridge open by Monday, Aug. 15.
