The Ava Bear Booster Club will sponsor its annual Fall Kickoff this Friday, with an opportunity to see all the Ava Bears in scrimmage action.
This will also be an opportunity for you to join the Booster Club for the 2011-12 school year.
The volleyball, softball and football teams will be wrapping up the first week of practice with scrimmages, and the cross country team members will be introduced.
The Ava High School Band will also perform for parents and fans when the scrimmage moves to the football field on Friday evening.
The volleyball team will begin the evening with a scrimmage in the high school gym at 5 p.m.
From there, fans will go to the softball field to watch the Lady Bears softball team, and also meet the members of the cross country team who will be introduced at the field before the softball scrimmage.
The evening will conclude at the football field with the Ava Pride Band taking the field to perform the National Anthem and School Song followed by the Ava Bears football team scrimmage at 7 p.m.
Parents and fans are invited to follow the Bears and Lady Bears as they move from the gym to the softball field, and finally to the football field on Friday evening.
The Booster Club will have punch cards available at the volleyball scrimmage for you to take and get punched at all three events. The cards will be turned in at the football field for drawings. Some of the drawings will include family Athletic Passes for all home athletic events, and Bear Wear.
At the football field the Booster Club will have tents set up on the west side of the stadium cooking pulled pork to feed all the athletes and band members.
They will have meals for sale for $5 for parents, family and community members, or you can become a Bear Booster member for $20 a family; if you become a member, your family will enjoy a complimentary pulled pork meal.
At each of the events Bear Booster members will be taking orders for T-shirts, and window decals. They will have Bear Wear on hand and will be having their annual membership drive.
The Football Bears will travel to Lebanon next Friday night, Aug. 19, for the football jamboree and will open their season a week later on Aug. 26 at Strafford.
The softball team will open their season on Aug. 22 at Springfield Glendale and the volleyball Lady Bears will open at home on Aug. 29 vs. Fordland.
The first competition for the cross country team will be Sept. 3 at the Strafford Invitational meet.
