Practice Starts Monday For Ava 7th & 8th Grade Football Teams

Equipment Will Be Issued Today and Tomorrow

Ava Middle School will have equipment check-out Thursday and Friday this week (Aug. 11 and 12) for 7th and 8th grade athletes planning to play football this fall.

Team practice will begin on Monday and Tuesday, and athletes must attend these practices to be eligible to play in the first game on Sept. 1.

Equipment check-out will begin at 8 o’clock this morning for 8th grade students, with check-out for 7th graders beginning at 9 a.m. Athletes should come to the dressing room entrance on the back side of the middle school building, Coach Jeff Pool said.

Those unable to pick up equipment today should report between 8 and 10 a.m. Friday to get their football gear.

The first team practice will be held on Monday afternoon, from 3:45-5 p.m. Athletes should report with shorts, shoes and helmets.

Practice on Tuesday will be from 8:30 to 10 a.m. in shorts, shoulder pads, shoes and helmets.

After school starts on Wednesday, practice will be held after school, from 3:20 to 5:30 p.m.

Students are also reminded that they must have their sports physicals completed and turned in prior to the first practice.

Coach Pool said it is necessary to hold these practices before school starts in order to meet the state’s mandatory requirement that students attend 14 practices before the first game. Pool said students were made aware of this requirement last spring before school was out.

The Middle School Bears will open their football season at home against Mtn. View-Liberty on Thursday, Sept. 1. The first game begins at 5:30 p.m.
