Members of Kiwanis Club of Ava had a full docket of items to discuss at last week’s meeting including Kiwanis Kids Day, a fair event fundraiser and several other things. Courtney Thompson, who received one of our scholarships came to our meeting and presented us with her Proof of Enrollment and her check was issued for the first semester. Amanda Ray’s check had already been sent to her, so that obligation is complete until Spring Semester dues.
We have been asked by the fair board to participate in a September 24 fundraiser. Since our Kiwanis Kids Day is normally the fourth Saturday in September, we are looking at Oct. 1 for Kids Day, and plan to work both events. We will start making initial contacts for Kids Day this week. If your club or organization would like to participate, please let us know!
Our club received two awards at District Convention this past weekend in Hot Springs, Ark. The Young Children Priority One (YCPO) Award was catagorized depending on the number of members in the club. We received the Coral Award for clubs with 25 or less members. Kiwanis Kids Day was the event that was submitted on the entry. We also received the Champions For Children Award in our division.
Each Lt. Gov. was to nominate one club from their division and our club was picked from the eight clubs by our Lt. Governor, who was presented a certificate from MO/ARK District Governor Thompson which he plans to present to our club at a later date.
School will be in session again soon, and we will be busier than ever. If you’ve ever thought about joining Kiwanis Club of Ava or would like more information, come to a meeting very soon and see what we are all about. If you join in August, your membership will just be $12 and is good until Sept. 30. You can decide whether or not to renew for another year at that time.
