“Hear O’Lord, when I cry with my voice, have mercy also upon me and answer me,” Psalm 27:7.
On the 13th, Gary took me to the Springfield airport. That afternoon I flew to Dallas, Texas were the temperature was hot in the 100′s, like it was in Missouri. When I arrived in Portland, Oregone the temperature was 68 degrees. As a matter of fact it was raining and cool on Sunday and I had to wear a coat. T.J. lives close to a bridge were they have a yearly Jazz Festival in the Cathederal Park across the street where it was also rained out that day.
On Thursday T. J. and I went to Seattle, Washington. T.J. drove east on 14 to Tukwila International train rail where we got on and rode th Seattle. We walked everywhere, down to the waterfront viewpoint, corner market and Pike Place fish market known for throwing the fresh fish to their customers.
We had lunch high up in the space needle. It was made in 1962 when the world fair was there. After that we walked to their big glass library. After that we walked back to catch the train back to Tukwila.
On Friday we went to Mount St. Helens. The roads and bridges were made after May 18, 1980, over 8,000 feet at Johnston Ridge Obeservatory. The beauty of the mountain is growing back with different colors of flowers and trees. The Cowlitz Indians call her Law-We-Lat-Klah.
I had seen the Seattle library and the Voo Doo Doughnut place in Portland on television so I had to try an apple fritter at the doughnut place. I can’t see why anyone would wait in line for thirty minutes for a doughtnut. To me, it was not better than any other place. I did go just to see if they were better, it wasn’t.
Saturday T.J. drove across the bridge to the Washington side and drove East close to the Columbia River. After we got to the Dallas we went across another bridge back on the side of Oregon. On the way back we stopped at Rowena Crest. It was made thousands of years ago by glaciers. Oregon has a lot of national parks. Most highways are made for bicycle riders. All gas stations are full service.
Monday we drove to the Tillamook Cheese Factory and watched how the process was done. We watched through glass, above the workers. Later we saw Cape Meares Lighthouse. It is a short one and due to damage people had done we weren’t able to go to the top. After that we went to the ocean side beach and waded in the ocean. We drove along the coast on the way home. I think that covers my trip this year visiting our son, T.J. I came back Tuesday night to Springfield and back to hot weather.
My condolences to Allie Gentry and family.
