Shirley Jean Hancock, 81 years, passed to heaven on July 31, 2011 at the Heart of the Ozarks Healthcare in Ava with her family by her side.
Shirley was born July 20, 1930 in Mtn. Grove, Mo., to Walter and Ella (Hurst) Uhlmann.
On July 11, 1954 Shirley and Harley Hancock were united in marriage in Gentryville, Mo., and to this union five children were born.
Shirley enjoyed working on the farm with Harley. She also enjoyed cooking, sewing, quilting and taking care of all her family. She was a Christian and attended church and singings regularly with Harley.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Harley, her son, Randy Hancock, infant son, William Terry, infant daughter, Phyllis Juanita, one brother, Edward Uhlmann and a sister, Phyllis Sparks.
Shirley is survived by two daughters and their spouses, Sandy and Armon Stewart, and Shila and Todd Currier, all of Ava; three grandchildren, Jennifer and Brent Lakey, Michael and Carrie Stewart, and Janell Stewart, all of Ava; and four great-grandchildren, Matthew and Morgan Lakey, and Benjamin and Bryce Stewart, all of Ava; one brother, Paul Uhlmann, Drury, Mo.; brother-in-law, Dwayne Sparks, sister-in-law, Agnes Uhlmann, brother-in-law and spouse, Joe and Georgia Hancock, sister-in-law and spouse, Daisy and Bill Mathews; nieces, nephews and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services for Shirley were Wednesday, Aug. 3, at 10 a.m. in the Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava, with burial in the Pleasant Home Cemetery, Drury, Mo. Visitation was Tuesday, Aug. 2, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the funeral home. Officiating was the Rev. Larry Vinson.
