A home in northeastern Douglas County was destroyed by fireĀ last Saturday afternoon, despite efforts of fire department personnel who battled the blaze in scorching heat.
It was reported that no one was home at the Staci Fleetwood residence on County Road 246, and the fire was discovered by a rural mail carrier. The structure was fully involved at the time the fire was discovered.
Fire departments from Eastern Douglas County, Dora, Skyline and E-76-EE responded, but the residence was a total loss. Ms. Fleetwood also lost a dog in the fire which appeared to have originated in the east end of the structure, in the utility room, firemen said.
“Excessive heat made fighting this fire a real challenge,” according to John Stanton of Eastern Douglas County Fire Dept.
