Exciting things are happening for our club! We are excited to learn that some of our activities have caught the eye of Kiwanis International! We have been contacted by KI concerning our Kiwanis Kids Day project, which is held in September at the city park.
We filled out a survey about the event and are in the process of gathering pictures and news articles to send. It appears KI would like to put the event in their Project Data Base. In addition, our Division Lt. Governor nominated us for the district’s “Champions For Children” award and we found out last week we had won! The award is to be presented at the District Convention in Hot Springs, Ark., on Aug. 5-7 which Glenda and Donna will attend. Not bad for a small club in Ava, Mo.
We received our $1,000 grant from Douglas County Community Foundation last week. That money will go toward scholarship payments which will go out this week and Terrific Kids supplies which will be ordered very soon.
Denise has been working very hard to keep the flowers watered in our designated flowerbed at the Ava City Park. It looked like we might lose them but they are starting to look better now.
Thanks to member and “Facebook Manager” Rick Baker, Kiwanis Club of Ava has gone “high tech.” Kiwanis Club of Ava can now be found on Facebook. Just type “Ava Kiwanis” in the search box and become our friend. There, you’ll find information about Kiwanis International, and more specifically, our club, including upcoming events we have scheduled and contact information if you would like to know more. It is our hope to gain new contacts for our club and prospective members through this means.
