Norma Stillings had a big family gathering at her house Saturday evening. They celebrated Debra Bohnstedt’s birthday and a visit with Juhi Goos. Juhi who lives in New Jersey came to Missouri for a two-week visit with her grandparents, Pete and Anna Goos, and her uncle, Roger Goos, of Lee’s Summit. She was accompanied by her father, Jeff Goos, who returned to his home, Wednesday. Pete, Anna and Roger brought Juhi for a weekend visit with family members here in Ava. They visited with Carl and Mary Goss last Friday evening and Norma Stillings, Saturday afternoon. Debra Bohnstedt of Springfield, Tom Stillings, Joyce Greenwood, Carla Lupton, and Charles Lupton Sr. of Ozark, and Gary Lupton of Sparta joined with Charley Lupton, Jo Johnson, Norma Stillings, Dan Stillings, and Alan Stillings of Ava for grilled hamburgers, corn-on-the-cob, water melon, homemade ice cream, and all kinds of good stuff. There was some singing, guitar playing, and a lot of visiting.
Norma had been watering the tomatoes, peppers, and cucumbers hoping to keep them alive until the rains would come. The rain that came, Sunday, evening was very welcome. Norma has picked a few cherry tomatoes and some green peppers, dug some potatoes, and pulled some onions. The lettuce has gotten tough but is still edible. It is a pleasure to have a small garden even though some of the things planted did not come up. There is time to try again.
