The following list of livestock show results from the Douglas County Fair was submitted to the Herald by Ava High School agriculture teacher and FFA sponsor Tiffany Kauffman.
Beef Show
Senior Showmanship-ages 14 and over: 1st Place: James Elijah of Ava. 2nd Place-Emma Wilkerson of Norwood. 3rd place-Justine Nelson of Norwood. Junior Showmanship-ages 8 to 13: 1st place-Mark Lawrence of Seymour, 2nd place-Paige Coffelt of Branson, and 3rd-Emily Sinning of Norwood.
Angus: 1st place Senior Heifer Calf-Holly Sinning of Norwood. 1st place Senior Yearling Heifer-Emma Wilkerson of Norwood, 2nd Place-Justine Nelson of Norwood, 3rd Place-Taylor Bradshaw of Norwood. Holly Sinning Senior Heifer Calf was Calf Champion. Emma Wilkerson won Senior Heifer Champion and Justine Nelson was reserve Senior heifer champion. Winning Grand Champion Angus was Holly Sinning and Reserve Grand Champion was Emma Wilkerson both of Norwood.
Hereford: Paige Coffelt of Branson won 1st place with her Senior Heifer Calf and was Calf Champion, and Grand Champion for the Hereford.
Limousin: Cindy and Dean Pearson of Birch Tree took 1st place with a Junior Heifer Calf, Late Junior Yearling Heifer, Pair of Heifers, and Spring Yearling Bull. They also had the Calf Champion, Junior Heifer Champion, Grand and Reserve Limousin Female and Grand Champion Limousin Bull.
Shorthorn: Jessica Bratton of Cabool took 1st place with her Senior Heifer Calf and her aged cow. Mark Lawrence of Seymour took 1st and 2nd place with his Late Summer Yearling Heifers and 1st place with his Spring Yearling Bull. James Elijah of Ava had the 1st place Late Junior Yearling Heifer and his Senior yearling Bull. Jessica Bratton won Calf Champion, Cow Champion, and Reserve Grand Champion Female. James Elijah won Junior Heifer Champion and Grand Champion Shorthorn Female and Bull. Mark Lawrence won Reserve Grand Champion Shorthorn Bull.
Commercial Heifers: Emily Sinning of Norwood took 1st place and Grand Champion Commercial. 2nd place was Ethan Prock of Wasola.
Supreme Female was Emily Sinning’s Commercial Heifer. Reserve Supreme Female was James Elijah’s Shorthorn. Supreme Bull was James Elijah’s Shorthorn and Reserve Supreme Bull was Mark Lawrence’s Shorthorn.
Meat Goats
Ethan Prock of Wasola took 1st and 2nd place in Registered Doe Kids 5 months to 1 year. These were also Grand and Reserve Doe Kids. Ethan also took 1st place with a pair of doe kids. Also, taking 1st and 2nd place was Ethan Prock with two entries in market goats under 60 lbs. Whitney Coffelt of Branson took 1st place with a commercial doe kid 5 months to 1 year. Supreme Doe Kid was Whitney Coffelt and was Reserve Supreme Doe Kid was Ethan Prock. Ethan Prock won junior meat goat showmanship for ages 8 to 13.
The judge for the Beef and Goat Shows was Jeremy Sisco of Ozark.
Dairy Cattle
Winners of showmanship were Adult: Debra Stewart of Ava, Senior (14 and over) – Katie Wantland, and Junior (13 and under) – Ellie Wantland 1st and Lila Wantland 2nd.
Brown Swiss: Serena Stewart of Ava won both 1st and 2nd place with her Junior Heifer calf entries. Jasmyn McGinnis of Ava won first place in Class 2 – Intermediate Heifer Calf. Serena Stewart won 2nd place in Class 2. Serena Stewart won 1st place with her Senior Heifer Calf, Class 3. Taking Junior Champion and Grand Champion Brown Swiss was Serena Stewart with her Class 3 – Senior Heifer Calf. Winning Reserve Junior Champion and Reserve Grand Champion was Jasmyn McGinnis with her Class 2 – Intermediate Heifer Calf. Serena Stewart also had a 1st place entry of a best three females.
Holstein: Winning Class 1 with her Junior Heifer Calf was Katie Wantland of Niangua. Lila Wantland of Niangua took 2nd place in Class 1. Ellie Wantland of Niangua won 1st place in Class 2 – Intermediate Heifer Calf. Winning Class 5 – Junior Yearling was Katie Wantland. Class 7 – Senior Yearling 1st place was Ellie Wantland and 2nd place was Katie Wantland. Class 13 – 4 year old cow – 1st place was Katie Wantland. Class 14 – Aged Cow – Ellie Wantland – 1st place. Katie Wantland – 1st place – best of three females. Ellie Wantland won Junior Champion – Class 2, Reserve Junior Champion – Class 7, Senior Champion – Class 14, and Grand Champion Holstein – Class 14. Katie Wantland won Reserve Senior Champion – Class 13 and Reserve Grand Champion Holstein – Class 14.
Supreme Dairy was Ellie Wantland – Holstein. The Judge was Crissy Durst of Huggins.
