The Reggie Spurlock home east of Squires was destroyed by fire last Saturday afternoon.
Fire departments from Squires, Goodhope, Ava Rural and City of Ava responded to the blaze, but the house was totally engulfed when the first units arrived around 6 p.m.
Firemen concentrated on saving a nearby garage and utility building.
Squires Fire Department personnel made the initial attack on the fire, but in the extremely hot, humid conditions, firemen quickly became overheated and calls went out for mutual aid assistance from neighboring departments.
Water was shuttled in by tankers and firemen also drafted from a swimming pool to cool the flames and protect surrounding structures.
