Geraldine Holt, 87

Geraldine Genevieve Applegate Holt, Chadwick, Mo., passed away Saturday, June 11, 2011, in the home of her son, Lionel. Geraldine was born Feb. 12, 1924, in Keltner, Mo., to O.A. Applegate and Myrtle Marie Hughes.

Geraldine grew up playing in the hills of Christian County on the banks of Swan Creek. She loved the Missouri Ozarks where she spent the majority of her life.

In 1940, Geraldine married Earlin Daugherty in Clever, Mo., and had two sons, Jerry Lee (1941) and Lionel Anthony (1947). In 1958, Geraldine married Ronald Gene Holt, and together they had one daughter, Lavonne (1959).

Geraldine was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Gene Holt in 1992; her son, Jerry Daugherty in 2008; two brothers, Howard Glenn Applegate and Warren G. Joseph (Rich) Applegate; one sister, Leaetta Juanita Willis; and one daughter-in-law, Carolyn Johns Daugherty.

Geraldine is survived by one son, Lionel, Ava; and one daughter, Lavonne Isaacs and husband Tony, Miami, Fla.; one daughter-in-law, Viola Daugherty, Chadwick; 13 grandchildren, Dennis Daugherty, Chadwick, Rhonda Maggard and Eugene, Chadwick, Rachel Morrison and Bo, Oldfield, Robin Phillips, Sparta, Kent Daugherty, Oldfield, Kirk Daugherty and Jessica, Oldfield, Kurtis Daugherty and Melissa, Chadwick, Caron Daugherty Mitchell and Kory, Fond du Lac, Wisc., Casey Daugherty, Springfield, Jesse Isaacs and Karina, Miami, Fla., Luke Isaacs and Natasja, Athens, Ga., Jenna Isaacs, Miami, Fla., and Jared Isaacs, Miami, Fla.; 22 great-grandchildren; six great-great grandchildren; multiple nieces and nephews; other relatives and a host of friends in the Chadwick community.

Geraldine retired from the US Postal Service in 1984 working most of her career at the Ozark Post Office. She attended the Union Church in Chadwick. She was a 30-year charter member of the Sparta Order of the Eastern Star. In her time spent with the Eastern Star, she served numerous positions, including chaplain. She also served as past Worthy Matron. Geraldine loved quilting, knitting, cooking, working in her yard, watching Cardinal baseball, and visiting with company on the front porch.

She will be missed dearly by all of her family and friends. Her love and laughter are carried in our hearts.

Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 15, in Adams Funeral Home, Ozark, Mo., with Pastor Tom Sisco officiating. Burial followed in Sparta Cemetery. Visitation was from noon to 2 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home.

Memorials in Geraldine’s honor may be made to Fair Haven Children’s Home or a charity of choice.
