Dorothy Laverne Atchison, daughter of the late Orvle and Pearl (Alexander) Atchison, was born on March 29, 1934 in Macomb, Mo., and departed this life on June 10, 2011 at her residence in Mtn. Grove, Mo., following a long illness. She was 77 years, 2 months, and 11 days of age.
Dorothy grew up and attended school in Norwood, Mo., and Exeter, Calif. She worked at Emerson Electric in Rogers, Ark. Later in life she became a caregiver.
Dorothy loved gospel music. She collected newspaper clippings, and she liked reading her Bible, writing, and her focus in life was on Spiritual Treasures. She had cute sayings for everyday things and she was very witty and used wise sayings in everyday life.
Dorothy was a longtime member of the Assembly of God Church.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Paul Atchison and Silas Atchison; one sister, Ruby Atchison; and by a half-sister, Rachel (Atchison) Babcock.
She is survived by four brothers: Arthur Atchison of Seymour, Mo., Kenneth Atchison of Deming, N.M., Noah Atchison of Mtn. Grove, and Dewey Atchison and his wife, Shirley, of Branson, Mo.; two sisters: Evelyn Atchison of Mtn. Grove and Marie Douglas and her husband, Ernest, of Springfield, Mo.; a sister-in-law: Louise Atchison of San Luis Obispo, Calif.; several nieces; nephews; great-nieces; great-nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends who will miss her very much.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, June 14, at 2 p.m. in the Craig-Hurtt Chapel with Chaplain Jeff Smith officiating. Dathan and Daphne Atchison and the Gospel Hour Trio sang “I’ll Meet You In The Morning.” Other song selections were, “When I Wake Up To Sleep No More,” “Thank God I Made It,” and “I’ve Got More To Heaven For.” Pallbearers were Michael Atchison, Dathan Atchison, Michael Thomas and Rick Bruffett. Burial was in the Hillcrest Cemetery under the direction of the Craig-Hurtt Funeral Home, Mtn. Grove, Missouri.
