Our office conducts Tax Preparation for Seniors each year and this year was very successful, in obtaining over $113,000.00 for the elderly citizens of our county. These refunds were from property tax credits and rent rebates. The tax season ended April 18. Our appreciaton to Ruth Barrett for assisting in this program.
We are announcing the Southwest Missouri Office on Aging Springfield Cardinals baseball game on Friday, June 24, at 7:00 p.m. Please call SWMOA at (417) 862-0762 to purchase tickets and for more information. Tickets are only $9.00 and the seats are in the shaded area along the third base line. If you would like to throw out the first pitch of the game, chances are only $1.00 each. Sounds like a wonderful evening before the heat gets really going!
Meals for next week are Monday, June 13—country fried steak, mashed potatoes and gravy, biscuit, carrots and pudding. Tuesday, June 14—cheeseburger, lettuce, onion, potato salad and cobbler. Wednesday, June 15—cashew chicken, rice, mixed vegetables, egg roll and cookie. Thursday, June 16—baked ham, sweet potatoes, creamed peas, roll, and ice cream. Friday, June 17—biscuits and gravy, sausage, eggs, oven fired potatoes, fruit or pancake. The fruit and salad bar comes with your meal on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The suggested donation is $3.50. You can’t beat this price anywhere else in town! We will do a meal substitution if you call us before 10:00 a.m.
Did you know your donation for your meal gives you more than a hot, delicious, nutritious meal? It also provides a heated place in the winter and a cool place to sit and talk in the summer. You can gather with friends and play cards or shoot a game of pool You also have a friend who can help with questions, needs and services. So come down and enjoy what the center offers.
June 14 is Flag Day. If you have a flag, please fly it. If you don’t have the red, white and blue, go buy one and fly it all summer. Be thankful to the veterans who gave us the freedoms we have.
Wednesday, June 15 is world elder abuse awareness day and you are requested to wear purple on that day to make others aware.
The Oats bus will be available for Ava trips on Monday, June 13, Wednesday, June 15 and Friday, June 17. The Health Care Management class conducted through the Extension Office will be held on Wednesday, June 15 in the basement. (Our appreciation to Angie Fletcher for handling this.) The Do Wrights will be singing at 11:00 a.m. Blood pressure screenings are on the first and third Thursdays from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. The screening is sponsored by the local health department and they do blood sugar screenings as well. Grace Home health Care will be conducting a foot clinic on Thursday, June 16. Please call ahead (683-4767) for an appointment. The registered nurse will do a foot assessment, nail trimming, callous and corn treatment and foot oil massage treatment for a suggested donation of $5.00. They will add aromatherapy mineral foot spa and treatment and foot massage for a $10.00 fee.
