All Around Bradleyville

Lots of hay being baled in this hot and sun-shiney weather. I saw that Walter Rogers got his hay baled in the bottom fields beside his house and not a drop of rain fell on it this time. That might be a record of some sort for it seems whenever the hay is down in those fields, it always comes a rain shower at least, and maybe a toad strangler. I guess all the rain got out of the way first this time, and I am glad it has stopped for a while.

We attended the Sloan family reunion last Sunday at the Sullenger Park in Taneyville. We usually have it in Shadowrock Park but as it is still covered in many feet of water we were glad we had another place to have it. I think at last count there were around 31 people there. My dad, Willie Sloan is the head of this branch of the Sloan family and he and my step-mom Donna were there and had just had their anniversary the day before on June 4. They have been married 21 years. Congratulations to them. It was very hot but somebody had thought to bring some electric fans so we had a breeze, even though it was a hot breeze. We had lots of good food and good visiting. Those attending were J. W. and Donna Sloan, Ginger Sloan, Bob and Karen Case, Sue Porter, Venessa Mills, Colby and Lynn Mitchell, Kyle, Jessi, Courtney and Brynne, Jason and Alicia Crouch, Danielle and Hayden, Scott and Julie Lawson and baby Garrett, Roger and Deana Magnuson and Ryan, Frank Schreiber, Brayden and Brianna, Amy Mills and Jason, Jenna Mills, Stephanie Sloan and Virginia Clayton.

Once again Memorial Day has come and gone and the cemeteries look beautiful decorated with all the different kinds of flowers and flags. Bob and I always decorate on the Sunday before Memorial Day and we made a big round trip. First we stopped at the Bradleyville Cemetery where my mother is laid to rest and some of my Lawson relatives. After we decorated there we drove to Garrison cemetery where Bob’s dad’s grave is and many more of his relatives. We got to visit a few minutes with Exie Case, who was also there with his wife Jessie and was decorating. We had to go to Forsyth so we went through the cutoff then came back through by Patterson Cemetery where Bob’s grandparents on his mother’s side is buried and we decorated there.

Bill Hurst had a birthday recently that I didn’t get into the paper, so I want to wish him a belated happy birthday. He is Bob’s cousin by marriage but he has always seemed like an uncle to our whole family and my kids have always called him “Uncle Bill”.

Congratulations to Brittney Sloan and Nick Haynes on the birth of their second son, Vincent Riley. He was born on May 31 and weighed 7 lbs. I know his big brother Zeke is very excited to have a little brother.

I appreciate good friend, Ethel West, who offered to write the news and send it in if I needed her to because of my computer being broken and the difficulty I have had getting it e-mailed in. I really appreciate the offer and may be taking you up on it in the future.
