William Harley Hancock

William Harley Hancock, 78 years, 3 months, and 29 days old, passed to heaven on May 31, 2011 at Heart of the Ozarks Healthcare, Ava, Mo.

Harley was born Feb. 2, 1933 in Douglas County, Mo., to James Berley and Alice (Thompson) Hancock.

Harley was a lifelong resident of Douglas County. Throughout his life, Harley farmed and worked at various sawmills in the area. On July 11, 1954 Harley and Shirley Uhlmann were united in marriage in Gentryville, Mo., and to this union five children were born.

Harley was a Christian and had attended church all his life. Harley enjoyed music and sang at many church revivals and funerals. He also enjoyed working with his cattle and his border collie dogs, and most of all he loved spending time with his family and friends.

Harley was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Randy, an infant son, William Terry, an infant daughter, Phyllis Juanita and one brother, Jim.

Harley is survived by his wife, Shirley of Ava, Mo.; two daughters and their spouses, Sandy and Armon Stewart and Shila and Todd Currier, all of Ava, Mo.; three grandchildren, Jennifer and Brent Lakey, Michael and Carrie Stewart and Janell Stewart all of Ava; four great-grandchildren, Matthew and Morgan Lakey and Benjamin and Bryce Stewart; one brother, Joe and Georgia Hancock, Papillion, Neb.; one sister, Daisy and Bill Mathews, Ava, Mo.; one brother-in-law, Paul Uhlmann; nieces, nephews and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services for Harley will be Friday, June 3, at 10 a.m. in the Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava, with burial in the Pleasant Home Cemetery, Gentryville, Mo.

Visitation will be Thursday, June 2, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the funeral home. Officiating will be Rev. Larry Vinson. Memorials may be made to Pleasant Home Cemetery or the donor’s choice of charity. Online condolences may be made to www.clinkingbeardfuneral home.com.
