Bethany Baptist Church

Several of the Bethany Baptist Church folks attended Pizza and Movie Night, Friday evening. The movie was based on an inner-city ministry sending “at-risk” kids to a working horse ranch where they came to see Christianity in action.

Pastor Bob Sorensen brought his message from Luke 16:19-31, Sunday morning on “What the lost person discovers sixty minutes after death.”

The people who die lost will find what the “rich man” found out when he opened his eyes in torment. Death does not “end it all.” Perhaps that is the saddest thing about the suicide of a lost person. Suicide is not a “way out” of trouble, pain, and misery. The trouble, pain, and misery have only begun. The answer to the question in Job 14:14, “If a man die, shall he live again, ” is “yes.” He will live on somewhere.

They will find out that God has a record of all our sins. Revelation 20:12 talks about books being opened and another book being opened which is the book of life. The dead are judged out of the books according to their works. We may think our sins are hidden but they are not hidden from God.

Satan has lied to them. Satan has made it his job to deceive. He whispers, “Go ahead indulge yourself, there is no judgment.” But we are appointed once to die and after that the judgment. We shall reap what we have sown in this life.

They will find out that there is a literal fire in Hell. The rich man said,” I am tormented in this flame.”  Satan has tried to convince people that there is no fire, but Jesus warned in Mark 9:43 to 48 that it would be better not to go into hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched, “Where their worm dieth not and the fire is not quenched.”

They will discover that they have missed the greatest thing offered in this life, God’s free gift of salvation. They will remember the times that they heard and rejected the offer of salvation. Part of the torment will be the remembering. It is better to answer the tender voice that is calling for repentance now, than to wait until it is too late.

All opportunities for salvation will be gone forever. Jesus said to the unbelievers that a time would come when they would seek Him, but they would not find Him, they would die in their sins. There is no hope for those who have died in unbelief. It is better to seek Him now while he may be found. He has said that all that come to Him now, will not be cast out. Now may be the only time you have. You have no idea when you will die and you do not know when the Lord will come.  Call upon the Lord today.

The folks at Bethany Baptist Church enjoyed the “Fifth Sunday” evening of food, fellowship, testimonies, and special music.
