Summer School at the Ava R-1 School District will be held daily from June 6 – July 1, from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
Breakfast and lunch meals are free to students. Limited bus routing will be offered to families. Buses will run routes on main highways. Parents will need to bring students to the highway to meet the bus.
At the elementary school, students entering first and second grade for 2011-12 can enroll in American Indians, Deserts and Oceans, Reading Castle, or Clifford Skills. Students entering third and fourth grade for 2011-12 can enroll in Reader’s Theater, Computers/Computadores, It’s Magic, Amazing Science, or Marvelous Math. Before and after school daycare will be offered to families at a minimum fee.
Middle school students have the option to enroll in Rails and Scales, Fly High with Commotion, or G.O.S.S.I.P. (Girls Overcoming Stereotypes So that Individuals Prosper).
High school students can earn 1/2 credit by attending and passing the class daily for two weeks (60 hours) or 1 credit by attending and passing the class daily for four weeks (120 hours). Students can enroll in Weightlifting/Physical Education, Personal Finance, Speech I and II, Summer Writing, or Creative Writing.
Jump Start Kindergarten will also be offered June 6-July 1, for students who will be entering kindergarten.
Hours will be the same, 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and breakfast and lunch will be served.
Before school care will be available starting at 6:45 a.m. and after school care will be available until 5:30 p.m.
