The Vanzant Community Center held its benefit supper and auction on May 7th. It was a huge success. It was estimated that about 350 people attended. We have such a wonderful support for our community. We appreciate all that participated in any way in making our benefit a success.
We started with a wonderful supper. Tom Hicks cooked brisket, pork loin, ham, and hotdogs. It was great as always. We appreciate Tom. Ladies of the community prepared baked beans, coleslaw, and potato salad and many different desserts to choose from. We served long lines of hungry people for a long time.
We appreciate Bo Coombs and David Medlock for bringing their bands to play music for our communities’ pleasure while dining. We also appreciate John Weber for building ramps to make our community center handicap accessible.
The auction was great! We had so many pies. We also had a huge variety of cakes and other baked goods. J.D. Shannon, Joe Shannon, and J.W. Collins were the auctioneers for this event. Of course, Esther Wrinkles had the most expensive pies sold. Her coconut crème pies brought $185 and $120 and her gooseberry pie brought $85. Audrey Smith brought a whole carload of pies. She must have stayed up all night baking. Glenda Lee’s apple pie sold for $85. Lots of other pies brought a lot of money. We appreciate all the ladies that brought baked goods and those that purchased them. We are graced with artistic people in our community for making all the crafts that were donated for auction.
We appreciate Jill Champlin (Drury Store) for advertising our benefit so that she could attend with daughter, Amy. And the Junction Superstore for donating ice. And we appreciate Chris Penner (Black Gate), Marty Lueck (Journagan Ranch) and Devon and Cheri Foster and Tammy Murphy (F/H Construction and Rock Quarries, Inc.) for their donations to the Community Center.
Please come join us for our next meeting, Friday, May 20, 2011 at 7:00 p.m. All community members are invited to attend. We will be discussing plans for the Vanzant Picnic, as well as, renovations for the building and grounds.
