Dogwood Ramblings

We had a bit of excitement last Thursday night in front of my house.  I heard a loud thump around 7:30 p.m. and went out front to see if a deer had been hit.  Nothing to be seen, but then as I walked further toward the road I heard some screaming and went across the road to see a car well down over the embankment on the north side of Hwy 14 and two people trying to get out of the obviously totaled car.  Christa Miller and Leslie Heriford had been driving west and ended up going off the road onto Richard and Jocelyn Down’s property, the car going between a huge oak and a telephone pole and tearing out some fence.  Both had received moderate injuries.  I called the Highway Patrol and Cox Ambulance people, who arrived before long.  Keith Jones, trooper, and Southern Webster County Fire District EMTs took over.  A few neighbors and others showed up as well.  Jim’s Body Shop came with a truck to haul the car out and that was quite a feat.  Now we just hope the injuries were not more than they appeared to be.

Randy got his cattle moved on Sunday with help from Regina, and there is much bellowing as the calves are now being weaned.  Randy made some new doors for his barn and they sure look nice.

Saturday evening Claudia Winnen dropped in for a visit along with two friends of hers.  Randy was here for a short while when they arrived so that was nice.  The ladies seem to think Randy is “a hunk”.

At St. Leo’s we had recognition of the religious education students and teachers followed by our Parish Council election.  The nominating committee did a good job and we are pleased with the election results.

Horrible what happened in the Joplin area last night.  Loved ones injured or gone, homes lost, jobs lost.  We must pray for all of them.  We only received a half inch of rain at my place, bringing the 3 day rain amount to three inches…..so far, and this is Monday morning.

Jamey Herd doesn’t have much to report and the weather has had her a bit upset.  She did mention that Erma Cudney isn’t doing well, is quite weak.  Wanda Dugan did go to check on Erma.  We are asking for prayers for Erma.

Keep well, keep safe.  Remember the weather victims in prayer for their many needs.
