Missionary/Evangelist Bob Walker will be speaking at Bethany Baptist Church, this week. The service times are 7:00 P.M. Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday with Sunday services at 10 and 11 A.M., and 1 P.M. There will be lunch on the grounds at noon.
Dan Stillings and his mother, Norma, sang a special song, Sunday morning, before Pastor Bob Sorensen brought a message out of Proverbs 28:1-6 he called, “You Do Understand Don’t You?”
Intelligent educated men who leave God out of the picture will never really understand spiritual things. The most important thing in life is salvation. Then comes obedience. God puts a Christian on solid ground through Bible reading and prayer, and by working and learning in the fellowship of a good church.
Do you understand why the wicked jump at shadows? They have not sought God. They seek the pot of gold at the end of a rainbow. They are trying to figure out life. So when bad things come such as terrorists attacks, natural disasters, and economic failures they do not have the peace of knowing that God is still on the throne.
Do you understand why the righteous are so bold in the face of unbelief? Why do they persist in taking the gospel out to the unsaved? They know that they are saved and heaven bound because of God’s mercy. They know that they have been chosen and commanded to take the gospel to all the world.
Do you understand why America survives even though there is so much open sin? There are still a few faithful ones who choose to be obedient to God. If there had been ten righteous persons in Sodom, God would have spared the whole city.
Do you understand why the world has so much cruelty and lack of mercy? Poor men will step on other poor men. They will cheat, lie, steal, and trample others under foot with no understanding of what they do to themselves.
Do you understand why some tolerate lawlessness and others defend the faith? Why is pornography tolerated in America, but the Ten Commandments, the Bible, and the mention of Jesus being censored out of public places?
Do you understand why some have confused values? On one hand Jesus said we are not to judge and on the other hand he told us how to judge. Jesus reminded the disciples that they must measure themselves by the same standard by which they measure others. We are called upon to discern between sound doctrine and popular teachings. We are to name sin and warn people away from those practices that Jesus has condemned.
Do you understand why it is important to have the right view of materialism? It is better to be right with God than to be rich with a perverted view of life. It is better to serve God, than to be caught up in a rat race that leads nowhere.
