Ava Kiwanis Club News

We were happy to have Sherry Vanderstine from Frontier Girls meet with us at last week’s Kiwanis Meeting.  Ms. Vanderstine shared some very interesting information with us on a new group that is being formed in Ava.  If you would like more information on that group please visit www.ozarksfrontier girls.com.

This week, on May 26, Suzanne Cooney from the Douglas County Health Department will be doing a short presentation on volunteering in our local community, in the event of an emergency here.

Anyone in the area who might be interested, is encouraged to attend this meeting at noon on Thursday at Highway House Cafe.

Thursday’s meeting will also be spent making final preparations for Peanut Day which will be held on Saturday, May 28.

Our members will be stationed at the intersection of 5 & 76 from 8 a.m. until noon on that day.  We will be giving packets of Kiwanis Peanuts to passing motorists in exchange for a cash donation.  This is a big fundraiser for us and we would like to thank you in advance for your generosity, which goes to help fund children’s programs we support in the community.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to our members who are dealing with health issues and also are with the people of Joplin as news of the devastation keeps coming in.  If you  are in the Ava area and would like to help, contact Judy at Ava Area Chamber of Commerce for information on how you can do that.

For general information on our club or activities, call Glenda Little at 683-6167.  For program scheduling or information, contact Donna Dixon at 683-1918.
