Our concerns and prayers for those in our community who are healing from medical procedures, coping with illnesses within their own family and still grieving the loss of loved ones are now expanded to the devastation in Joplin. Pray for the families who have lost loved ones and perhaps still searching for family that can’t be accounted for. Pray for EMS personnel and all volunteers as they work non-stop to help in that area. We often wonder why such terrible things can happen but we know God is in control and we must keep our faith in Him during every tragedy. That goes along with the message that Bro. Oren delivered this Sunday morning.
Bro. Oren read scripture from Psalm 40:1-8 explaining how David called out to God to lift him out of the pit of his life and get him back on solid ground and walking straight with the Lord. Like David, we are all sinful and there are times we slip off that narrow path. But, we must look up to God and take Joy in knowing He is there and He will put us back on the right path. But we have to remember that as we deal with life, we must make sure that God gets our devotion and our obedience. He wants us to keep walking in faith and knowing that He is always there with us.
It was a beautiful and moving memorial that was held on Friday at the Church for Bill Whitaker. He will be missed but we know he is with Jesus now so we rejoice in that. I think he touched many people who knew him or knew of his generous heart.
The ladies banquet was held Sunday night at 6 pm so our evening services were dismissed. On May 29th, the evening services will be dismissed as well and Monday May 30th, Monday morning men’s group will be dismissed for Memorial Day and the church office will be closed as well.
Also, we are preparing for our Vacation Bible School and this year the Crafts department would like to make a child’s stool. We are looking for some additional volunteers, who have some wood working skills, to cut out, assemble and lightly sand some of these stools. If you would be willing to help, let us know or pick up a pattern in the back of the church and you can then charge your materials at Cooper Lumber.
We are always looking for volunteers who may want to work in our nursery, or help in children’s church. If you have any interest in learning how you could help with our sound board or the recording of our services, please ask. Also,be thinking about our Vacation Bible School this summer and pray about where God may lead you to help out.
We want you to feel welcome here at Ava General Baptist Church. Our services start at 8:30 a.m. and 10:45 a.m. with Sunday school hour at 9:45a.m. Our Sunday school is for all ages, not just for kids.
God loves each and every one and He yearns to know each personally. Invite Him in and you will never be the same; only better. Have a great week and we hope to see you Sunday. God Bless.
