Ozarks Writers League Workshop Saturday at CofO

The Ozarks Writers League is holding its quarterly workshop from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday, May 21 at Plaster Auditorium on the campus of College of the Ozarks in Point Lookout, Mo.

Author Elizabeth Lyon will conduct an all-day session about improving writing skills. Lyon’s morning session is “Writing for Voice, Revising for Style,” where she will talk about techniques to help writers make changes in syntax, diction, word choice, power positions and imagery to give the editors and agents that “fresh, original” book they’re always talking about. The afternoon session is “Writing for a Character-Driven Plot, Revising for a Page Turner.” There, attendees will learn techniques to increase suspense, deepen characters and keep the readers turning the pages.

Lyon has written several writer’s guides and has also worked as a book editor and writing teacher.

Registration begins at 8:30. To find the workshop, enter the college campus then follow Opportunity Avenue to the Plaster building, the third major building on the right.

OWL workshops are held four times a year, on the third Saturday of February, May, August and November. Cost is $20 for a one-year membership.
