Last Monday was certainly a day of celebration for the Lions, the community and for the Ava Victory Academy Ladies.
The community is the big winner because of the accomplishments of both the Lions Club and Ava Victory Academy. The Lions welcomed the national champions and honored both the players and coaches with a dinner.
The Lady Crusaders won the national championship tournament for their class by competing with over 300 other schools. They are to be complimented on their accomplishments. They serve the Ava community well with their achievements. In addition to the championship, they also were selected as the team that was the most courteous and most Christlike, which, in itself is quite an accomplishment.
The Lions also celebrated their own accomplishment by completing the annual walk/run event on Saturday. Approximately 150 runners and walkers participated in this event. Each participant received a packet with over $300 in free items, food and discounts coupons.
Larry Morrison, Lions president, said none of this could have been completed without the full support of the citizens and businesses of Ava and the surrounding community. It was truly a team effort and all of us can be proud.
The event generated over $135,000 in gifts, prizes and coupons, including free dinners and many area restaurants and passes to most Branson theater shows, Silver Dollar City and Six Flags. The event raised approximately $8000 for the local club. That money will be kept right here in the community helping those who need help and buying glasses for the young people who need assistance.
The Lions would also like to congratulate Pete Leonard who was selected as a member of the Missouri All Star basketball team sponsored by the Missouri Lions. Pete will be playing in the all-star classic on Saturday, June 11, at Baptist Bible College in Springfield. Pete will have a page dedicated to him with his picture, his stats and advertising from local businesses supporting him in this honor. Lions encourage everyone to go watch Pete play and give the scoring leader and record holder the hometown support he deserves.
Congratulations go out to the community, the businesses and the Ava Victory Academy Lady Crusaders. The Lions are so proud of you. You are the winners and the Lions are so proud to be a part of and able to serve this community.
