The National Wild Turkey Federation, Booger County Gobblers Chapter, in conjunction with Missouri Department of Conservation and Quail Forever hosted a youth bird hunt on Saturday, March 26.
The morning greeted the group with heavy rains and cold weather. However, after a morning of coffee, discussions on taxidermy, several short seminars and lunch, the rain moved out and the hunt got underway.
Forty birds were hunted, and then the clay birds got a work out. The youth appeared to have as much fun as the adults, making the event a total success despite the weather.
The Jakes event will be held this Saturday, May 21, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., east of Ava on Hwy 14. It is sponsored by the National Wild Turkey Federation and Booger County Gobblers.
