The Ava Art Guild will hold their annual Spring Art Show from May 31 to June 4. This show has proven to be an outstanding event in the past with entries in many categories and is shaping up to be another great show.
The entry day will be on Memorial Day. Entries will be taken on May 30 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the gallery, but arrangements can be made to enter your art before that date.
The Spring Show will run all week with art exhibited such as painting, drawing, photography, 3-D art and much more. Each category has beginner, intermediate and advanced, if there is enough items for each category. There is also a junior age division for artists under 18.
This is a judged show with cash prizes for Judge’s Choice and People’s Choice and ribbons awarded for the first through fourth places in each category.
There is a $3 per item entry fee and all items to be hung must be framed with wire hangers (no saw tooth hangers). All family appropriate art will be accepted and is not limited to the categories mentioned. You do not have to be a member of the guild to enter art in the show.
The show is free and open to the public. A People’s Choice award is given and chosen by the vote of the public. The show is open from 10 a.m. to 4 pm. daily during the show.
Celeste Prussia will present a demonstration on making hypertufa planters on May 21 at the next Ava Art Guild meeting and workshop. Hypertufa pots and planters are an attractive alternative to concrete and stone planters. Hypertufa is a man-made substitute for Tufa rock.
Tufa is a spongy cellular rock found in limestone country and especially where water has worn and leached out original materials to create a porous spongy consistency.
Hypertufa is made from a mixture of Portland cement, sand and peat moss, and can be fashioned into stepping stones, birdbaths, in addition to just about any size or shape planter.
The May meeting will start with a social time at 1 p.m., then a business meeting at 1:30 p.m., followed by the hypertufa demonstration at 2 p.m.
The demonstration is free and open to the public. Find us on facebook, or for more information email avaartguild@yahoo.com or www.avaartguild.org.
