Norwood Area Gleanings

The newest news around Norwood is there was an explosion at a double-wide trailer, two trailers south of the old Baptist church, last night around nine o’clock. As far as I know no one was hurt or the cause of the fire has not been reported. There was a loud boom and it shook our house several blocks away. It felt as if it was in our basement. I don’t know if anyone was home or not and I don’t know who lives there now.

More deaths to be reported. Maxine “Cramer” McIntosh, age 79, wife of the late Gerald McIntosh was brought here from Ohio for services and burial. She was a daughter of George and Flossie Cramer of Norwood and she grew up and married here. She was a long time friend as was her entire family and in-laws. Her services will be at 2 p.m. today at Craig-Hurtt-Hutsell and burial will be at Thomas Cemetery, here. Her brother Ronnie Cramer and wife live here in town. Sympathy to the family.

Christy Chadwell’s grand-mother, a Mrs. Haynes, of Ava, passed away Thursday. She had recently been in a care center at Ozark, Mo. I have met her and she was quite old even older than me, but not a lot. Christy has been very close to her and she was a sweet lady. Christy is one of our local high school teachers and my granddaughter-in-law. Pray for the family.

Last evening a group of friends gathered at the home of Leon and Rita Bradshaw north of Mountain Grove and each brought food. Leon is our nephew and has some severe health problems. They are a lovely couple with two married sons. Please pray for them and we pray Leon will be well soon.

John “Buck” Dawson is still hospitalized after a severe heart attack last week. He is to have by-pass surgery on one blockage before returning home. So far he has done well. We didn’t hear yesterday.

Tonight is the alumni banquet at Norwood multi-purpose room. It slipped up on me. I’ve been having back problems and with so much going on, things seem to happen so fast. I hope to go as I missed last year but I’m not sure yet. It’s so nice to see old friends.

The Norwood seniors are on their senior trip and will be home today. Someone just called and said they came in about 1 a.m. They had only gone to Fordland and visited a castle someone has built close there and is for such things. It sounds very interesting. Someone called me again and said the seniors went to the castle on their prom night but went to Branson for their senior trip and returned this a.m. They are not allowed to spend the night anymore because of things that went on in the past.

Sad to lose Dollie (Mrs. Geo. Stigall) of Norwood at 79 years of age. Her funeral service was at the Assembly of God Church at Norwood yesterday with burial at Thomas Cemetery. George is deceased. Dollie cooked at the Norwood School for a long time but quit to care for her husband. She has spent a lot of time with her three children since. She was a lovely lady and friend.

Folks are having garage sales on Hwy. Y north of Macomb today.

Teresa Chadwell and Mark Bradshaw were treated to dinner yesterday by Teresa’s son, Dustin. They enjoyed it. It was sort of an early Mother’s Day dinner since Dustin has to work Sunday. Mark just happened to be off work and his wife had to work that day. All are also neighbors.
