Bradleyville

It has been a little bit more busy than usual at our house the past week, with our son David coming home for a week to visit and turkey season winding down. It seems we might have met ourselves coming and going a few times. It is always that way around here, only more so this week.

David had a good visit, meeting his six week old nephew, Garrett for the first time and visiting with lots of family and friends. He didn’t get to see everyone he wanted to but he will be back in August for two weeks, so he will try to see everybody he missed then.

The Saturday before Mother’s Day all our kids and their families gathered at our house for a fish fry/turkey fry. Along with the fish and turkey we had taters, of course, a big pot of brown beans, macaroni and cheese, pasta salad, hushpuppies and cheesecake for dessert.

Jason and Alicia brought their bluegrass instruments and entertained us with several songs. Then the men entertained us with some arm wrestling and more wrestling moves, and just general shenanigans. Danielle, Courtney and Brynne didn’t want to be left out on the fun so they got in on showing the guys some things that was funny that men weren’t supposed to be able to do, like leaning over in the floor and pushing a glass over with their nose. They had to be a certain space away from the glass. It was lots of fun watching everyone try to master the moves.

It was wonderful to see Ryan and Laura Melton and baby Blake at church Sunday morning. Blake is doing so well after his surgery and has hardly any swelling or bruises at this point. He is just an adorable little guy who has a big smile for anybody who talks to him.

A reminder that the Bradleyville School graduation will take place this Saturday, May 14 at 7 p.m. The seniors will leave right after graduation for their senior trip to Panama City, Florida. They have worked hard all year at ballgames and fundraisers to raise the money for their trip. I hope they all have a great time.

Corby Lux brought the Mother’s Day message at New Mansion Church on Sunday morning and he did a wonderful job. He also read a list of sayings that mothers have been known to say to their children and I sure recognized several of them. It was also good to see Tanner Lux, Corby’s brother at church Sunday. Lois said she got to attend a banquet with Tanner the night before, and Tanner was the speaker for his Christian group.

Several hundred people attended the Walk/Run Saturday morning, but I wasn’t one of them this year. I stayed home to prepare for our dinner at home but Bob, David and the grandkids all walked or ran in it, and Bob brought home a second place medal for his age group.
