Ava Middle School Girls Compete In Track Meets

The Ava Middle School girls competed in several track meets with good results this spring. Following is a recap of the meets by Coach Justin Gilmore.

Mountain Grove Meet

7th Grade

The Ava track team started the year off with a meet at Mountain Grove.  The 7th grade girls finished the meet in 4th place out of nine teams.  The following individuals placed in the meet:

Jacey Swofford got 2nd in the discus with a throw of 69 feet 3 inches and 4th in the shot put with a throw of 27 feet 9 inches.

Hope Evans got 3rd in the discus with a  throw of 62 feet 3 inches and 5th in the 400 meter dash.

Bailey Loge got 5th in the discus with a throw of 60 feet 1 inch.

Caley Wallace got 5th in the long jump with a jump of 10 feet 6 inches.

Marissa Stout got 2nd in the 800 meter dash.

The 4×200 and 4x 100 meter relay teams finished 4th in the meet.  The 4×400 relay team finished 3rd.  The 7th grade definitely had a good first meet and they will continue to improve throughout the season.

8th Grade

The 8th grade track team finished 3rd out of 9 teams at the Grove meet.  The following individuals placed in the meet:

Callie Eubanks won 1st in the 100 meter dash and 200 meter dash.  She also got 2nd in the long jump, with a jump of 14 feet.

Ashlee Helm got 6th in the 75 meter hurdles.

Maranda Yost got 2nd in the discus with a throw of 69 feet 11½ inches, and she got 4th in the shot put with a throw of 29 feet 5 inches.

Lakota Blakey got 5th in the triple jump with a distance of 26 feet 2 inches and 3rd in the 800 meter dash.

Maddie Guill got 3rd in the 1600 meter run with a time of 6 minutes and 46 seconds.

Megan Cooper got 4th in the 400 meter dash.

Kim Copeland got 5th in the 400 meter dash.

Amber Beverlin got 5th in the long jump with a distance of 12 feet 5 inches.

Tailer Stofer got 3rd in the 200 meter run.

The Ava relay team won the 4×100 meter relay, got 2nd in the 4×200 meter relay, and got 3rd in the 4×400 meter relay.

“I am very proud of the girls in their first meet. We performed very well for our first meet.  Every girl on the 8th grade team placed in either an individual or relay event,” Coach Gilmore said.

West Plains Meet

7th Grade

The 7th grade girls track team finish 9th out of 15 teams at the West Plains meet.  The following individuals placed in the meet:

Marissa Stout got 6th in the 800 meter dash.

The 4x 100, 4x 200, and 4×400 relay teams all finished in 6th place at this meet.  “We had difficulty scoring points going up against 14 other schools,” Gilmore said.  “The girls tried their best and I am proud of their effort.”

8th Grade

The 8th grade team finished in an impressive 3rd place out of 15 teams at the West Plains meet.  The following individuals placed in the meet:

Callie Eubanks won the 100 meter dash, 200 meter dash, and got 2nd in the long jump with a distance of 13 feet 6 inches.

Maddie Guill got 7th in the 1600 meter run with a time of 6 minutes 34 seconds.

Megan Cooper got 7th in the 400 meter run with a time of 1 minute 14 seconds.

Kimberly Copeland got 8th in the 400 meter run with a time of 1 minute 16 seconds.

Lakota Blakey got 5th in the 800 meter run with a time of 3 minutes.

The 4×100 relay team won the event, 4×200 team got 3rd, and the 4×400 team got 5th.  The 8th grade team had a wonderful performance at this meet.  The team has worked hard and their success at this meet is a reflection of their great work ethic.

Willow Springs SCA Meet

7th Grade

The 7th grade track team finished 4th as a team in the SCA meet.  The following individuals placed:

Hope Evans got 5th in the 400 meter dash.

Hunter Shelton got 6th in the 400 meter dash and 5th in the triple jump.

Marissa Stout got 4th in the 800 meter run.

Caley Wallace got 4th in the long jump.

Jacey Swofford got 4th in the shot put and 2nd in the discus.

Bailey Loge got 3rd in the discus.

The 4×100 relay team got 2nd and the 4×200 and 4×400 teams got 3rd.  The 7th grade team had a good year and they improved a lot throughout the course of the year.

8th Grade

The 8th grade team finished 3rd in the SCA.  The following individuals placed at the meet:

Callie Eubanks got 2nd in the 100 meter dash and long jump.  She also got 3rd in the 200 meter dash.

Maddie Guill got 4th in the 1600 meter run with a time of 6 minutes and 34 seconds.

Lakota Blakey got 3rd in the 800 meter run.

Amber Beverlin got 5th in the 800 meter run.

Tailer Stofer got 4th in the 200 meter dash.

Megan Cooper got 6th in the high jump with a height of 4 feet 4 inches.

Amber Beverlin got 6th in the long jump.

The 4×100 and 4×200 meter relays got 2nd and the 4×400 meter relay team got 3rd.  The 8th grade team had a few injuries and illnesses, but still found a way to compete.

“I am going to miss this bunch of girls.  I have enjoyed the opportunity to coach this group of athletes, and I look forward to their future successes,” Coach Gilmore said.
