Ava FFA Chapter Banquet Held Friday, April 29

On Friday, April 29, approximately 175 FFA members, parents, and guests gathered to celebrate the successes from 2010-2011.

President Courtney Levan welcomed all those in attendance and Brittany Maggard provided invocation. Following the meal of steak or chicken, au gratin potatoes, green beans, corn, hot rolls, apple cobbler, ice cream, tea and lemonade, the awards ceremony began.

Receiving Star Greenhand was Deevala Rawlings. James Elijah won Star Chapter Placement and Taylor McDonald won Star Chapter Farmer.

Chapter Scholarship Awards were handed out to Kayte Aid, Josh Freeman, Augusta Rideeoutte, and Abby Dean. Chapter Leadership Awards were given to Ciara Fossett, Katie Hicks, Ashtin Stillings, and Courtney Levan.

The DeKalb Award was given to Abby Dean. The Clinkingbeard Family Scholarship was given to Katherine Moran. The John Hart Agriculture Scholarship was given to Courtney Levan. The Norman and Goldene Hart Memorial Scholarship was awarded to Abby Dean.

The Ironwood Award was given to Amy Gillespie. The Midwest Dairy Award was given to Jeffery Inman.

Community Blood Center of the Ozarks (CBCO) Awards were given to James Elijah and Ashtin Stillings. The CBCO Scholarship was given to Courtney Levan. The chapter also received an award for collecting 424 donations in 2010-2011.

Members receiving Proficiency Awards were Ag Communications- Stephanie Whiteman, Ag Mech and Fabrication- Seth Miller, Ag Mech and Maintenance-Neco Ripon, Ag Processing- Billy Davison, Ag Sales: Placement-Julia Spurlock, Ag Services-Cody Bellman-Hart, Beef Entrepreneurship-James Elijah, Beef Placement- Katherine Moran, Dairy Production:  Entrepreneurship- Ashley Lewis, Diversified Ag Production- Patrick Cotton, Diversified Horticulture- Kendra Schuster, Equine Entrepreneurship – Ciara Fossett, Equine Placement – Katie Hicks, Floriculture – Courtney Levan, Food Science – Brittany Maggard, Outdoor Recreation – Abby Dean, Poultry Production – Rusty Rogers, Small Animal Production – Hannah Phinney, Specialty Animal – Nikki Dougherty, Swine Production – Josh Dewaard, Turf Grass – Ryan Breshears, and Vegetable Production – Ashtin Stillings.

Jeff Martin was awarded the Chapter Honorary FFA Degree. Four year members receiving their graduation sashes were Garrett Baird, Charles Bruton, Austin Clayton, Taylor Coonts, Dustin Davis, Billy Davison, Abby Dean, Amy Gillespie, Cody Heriford, James Hinrichs, Jeffrey Inman, Courtney Levan, Brittany Maggard, Samantha Martin, Katherine Moran, Jody Pearson, Neco Rippon, and Cheyenne Russ.

Those individuals and businesses receiving Certificates of Appreciation were: Ava Building Supply, Ava Veterinary Clinic, Century Bank of the Ozarks, Concrete Works, Copeland, Ray Davison, Dunn Chiropractic and Acupuncture Center, Linda Coursey, Elijah Farms, First Home Savings Bank, Heath and Son, Douglas County Herald. Randy Kauffman, KKOZ Radio, Larson Farm and Lawn, Lesley Levan, Leslie Martin, MFA of Ava, Jim and Shawna Mills, Regina Porter, Janice Rawlings, Airin Roberts, Billie Schuster, Shrable Fertilizer and Feed, Spurlock’s General Store, Tammy St. John, Kent Stamper, Janell Stewart, and Sharon Vance.

Those competing in contest were also recognized. Ag Sales members were Billy Davison, Abby Dean, Brittany Maggard, and Stephanie Whiteman, whose team placed 9th at state. James Elijah competed in Advanced Public speaking and completed ownership recordbook.

FFA Knowledge was Colton Burton, Autumn Dawson, Ciara Fossett, and Kayla Tanner. Ciara Fossett participated in Creed Speaking. Brittany Maggard and Kayte Aid both had their recordbook at state for placement. Brittney Dixon competed in beginning ownership recordbook.

Abby Dean and Ashtin Stillings received 2nd place on the scrapbook. The livestock team consisted of James Elijah, Taylor McDonald, and Kendra Schuster.

Competing in Floriculture were Katherine Moran and Nikki Dougherty. On the Horse team were Ciara Fossett, Deevala Rawlings, Autumn Dawson, and Trever Murrah. The poultry team that competed at districts consisted of Rusty Rogers, Hannah Phinney, and Cheyenne Lafferty.

Competing on the forestry team were Brandan Lambert, Courtney Levan, Dustin Davis, and Katherine Moran. The Soils team consisted of Nathan Weathersbee, Patrick Cotton, Colton Hall, and Cody Bellman-Hart. Katherine Moran also competed in Job Interview and placed 5th at districts, making her alternate for state.

Ryan Breshears and Ashley Lewis performed in State Choir and Ashley Lewis also performed in State Talent.

The following officers were installed as 2011-2012 officers: James Elijah-President, Cody Bellman-Hart and Taylor McDonald – Co-Vice Presidents, Ciara Fossett – Secretary, Kayla Tanner – Treasurer, Ashtin Stillings – Reporter, Augusta Rideeoutte – Sentinel, Ashton Davis – Historian, and Kendra Schuster – Chaplain. Following officer installation, the 2011-2012 officer teams conducted closing ceremonies and closed the banquet.
