The High Calling

When asked to complete this sentence, many people may not get it exact, but will get the finishing thought correct “In the beginning…” In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth, which is the very first verse in the Bible.  We see as we read on through the Genesis account of creation that God first created light, then He separated the waters from the waters, then He gathered the seas together so that dry land would appear, and the grasses and green plants grew along with fruit trees of all kinds, each having its own seed within itself so it would reproduce itself.  Then God made the lights in the heaven, the sun and moon and He divided light from darkness, and in verse 18 God saw it was good.

Using our imagination we can picture in our minds eye the love and pleasure God took in each detail of His creation, using His divine imagination to see first what His creation was going to be like and then to speak it into being and keep it with the word of His power (Heb 1:3)  As the divine artist, God could stand back and using His minds eye, or His imagination, and could mold, change, adjust whatever He was making until He was ready for it to be unveiled, then God would speak and it would be.

“Let there be light”  And there was light.

God then created the fish and the birds, and every living thing that lived in the water, and this God said was good.  He then created the animals that lived on the ground, from the tiniest insect to the largest land animal using his imagination to form them, then speaking them into being v. 24 …”Let the earth bring forth…and it was so.”

The universal stage was prepared, love, time and care had gone into every detail, laws of nature were established and were set and ready to receive God’s final creation, His final masterpiece, something He could love and be loved in return, which was the exact image of Himself in the flesh, man and woman (v. 27).

When the Bible says we are made after his likeness in verse 27 it means we have been made in the like-ness of God.  We were created to be like Him, and Ephesians 5:1 tells us to imitate God as dear children, because that is what he intended from the beginning-God set the celestial stage and prepared the earth for a Godly family, but a tragic decision by the woman then the man cost God and them dearly.  The Bible tells the story of God’s love for family and what steps He is willing to take to make everyone know how much He loves them and desires their love in return.  The whole creation was created for God’s good pleasure and it is his pleasure to share it with you because He loves you!

Until next time, God bless you and your loved ones.
