The Skyline R-2 Board of Education met in regular session on Thursday, April 21, with all seven members present. The consent agenda items were discussed and approved.
A report was given on the reorganizational meeting which was held on April 7. Officers elected at that meeting included Tim Scrivner, president; James Brixey, vice president; Dana Smith, secretary; and Travis Shearer, treasurer.
Under old business, the calendar for 2011-2012 was approved with starting date of Aug. 15, 2011. The board voted to become an affiliate member of MSHSAA with Ava so 7th and 8th grade students can play football or volleyball at Ava. They also agreed to become an affiliate with Norwood for girls’ basketball. Skyline will have junior high boys basketball at Skyline and continue the pee wee program. The non-certified salary schedule was increased by 25 cents per hour per position.
Under new business, Caress Willhite was congratulated for winning fourth place at OSEF (science fair). She will be going to Los Angeles to compete as an alternate at the national fair. The board is sponsoring half of her air fare along with half of the air fare for Ms. Lannie Hinote as class sponsor.
Substitute pay was increased from $60 to $65 starting the 2011-2012 school year.
The June board meeting was set for June 23 at 7 p.m. All non-certified staff were rehired for the 2011-2012 school year.
Elizabeth Kennedy was hired for the head cook position.
In the superintendent’s report, statistics for March included enrollment of 81 and 11 preschoolers with an attendance of 91 percent. The next regular board meeting is scheduled for Thursday, May 19 at 7 p.m.
