Norwood Area Gleanings

We’re so sorry about the death of Jan (Kelley) Delcour who passed away Friday the 29th of April. She has lived and worked for a bank in Lebanon for several years with her husband Dennis, but they had built a lake home at Isabella, Mo. recently and had moved there. She was a Norwood graduate and the daughter of Rex and Wava of Norwood. Rex is also deceased and Wava continued living in Norwood for some time and then moved to Lebanon. Jan has suffered with cancer for some time. She will be missed very much by her friends and family.

The Macomb Sunshine Club met Wednesday, April 28 at Mansfield restaurant “The Country Bumkin” with seven members present. They were Marilyn Wilson, Loretta Hall, Mrs. Dake (a new member, Sue Dodds, Joan Gray, Robbin McNeil, Ruth Bradshaw, and two visitors, Leo Bradshaw and Duane McNeil. Our president, Sharon Norell, was absent due to a doctor’s visit. Erma Ward, a member, was also absent. We had taco salad and strawberry shortcake. We enjoyed them, our program was a visit to the “Kelley” greenhouse but it was closed due to the weather, I assumed. It’s a new business north of Mansfield on Hwy. 5.

The rain seems to have lifted of which we are glad but we hope it comes back when we need it.

Most people are anxious to get some garden out before it rains more. So sorry for those southern people who lived in the states hit by so many tornadoes and were killed and so many homes destroyed. So far we in this area have been so blessed. We don’t know what another day will bring.

I received a call from Diane Atchison, daughter of Paul Atchison and wife, who are now deceased. I attended school with Paul. Her mother was a Brazeal from Macomb. I enjoyed the visit very much.

Dakota Cottengim did some yard work for me Friday. He came after school and will be back. He is a good worker and helped me last year.

Our next door neighbor, John Dawson, is in a Springfield hospital after having a heart attack Thursday evening. He was taken to the hospital by helicopter. He received two stints and is doing much better, his family reported today. We pray he will have a great recovery.

Paul Moore of Hartville visited us Thursday from near Hartville. Paul hasn’t been very well. His wife Betty has recovered from a broken leg and is now back to work at Walmart. Paul has lost two young nephews recently with cancer. There have been so many friends and relatives passing away recently. Even though we know those things do and will happen it hurts us so much. I knew of Kenneth Wright, Randy Mac Harris, I never knew him but grew up with Joe, his dad, Betty Moore and others for years but hadn’t seen them recently. The Bible says Satan (the God of this world is in the cause of death but Jesus paid a ransom for us if we accept him as our savior.) I love life and would love to have it more abundantly.

Leon Bradshaw of north of Mountain Grove has been very ill and was taken to Barnes Hospital in St. Louis. He works in Cabool. We haven’t heard of his condition since. He is the son of Howard and June Bradshaw. Howard is deceased. His wife Rita works at the Cabool Bank. We pray he will get better soon.

I hear Norwood girls beat the game with the Mansfield girls eleven to zero. There’s not much of school left this year.

Rex Bradshaw has closed his parts store here at Norwood due to the economy and has moved to Nixa. We are sorry to lose any business here. Hopefully things will brighten up.

Have a good week.
