Ava Kiwanis Club News

To close out the month of April, we welcomed March and April “Citizens of the Month at last week’s meeting, along with Assistant Principal David Williams and several family members of the students along with our regular members.

May is shaping up to be a very busy month in the life of our club!

At this week’s meeting, we will welcome Les Hallmark who is scheduled to be our speaker for Kiwanis Prayer Week on Thursday at noon at Highway House Cafe. Please consider this an open invitation for anyone in the general public who would like to be involved!

May 9 will be our last Terrific Kids presentation of this school year.  Please join us in the elementary cafeteria at 2:30 to be involved in that.

The Chamber Luncheon will be held on May 10 on the square, hosted by Chamber of Commerce.

On May 12, we will have a program from Ozark Action by Anita Parret.  The public is invited to attend.

May 19, Sherry Vanderstine will meet with us to discuss Frontier Girls, which is a relatively new program beginning here in Ava. Again, the public is invited to attend.

On May 28, 8-noon, you will find our members at the intersection of Highways 5 & 76 handing out peanut packets to motorists who give the club a monetary donation.  Please know in advance that your donations will be used to support children’s programs we are involved in right here in our own community.  We thank you in advance for your support!

On Thursday April 28, Donna and Glenda visited 2nd grade students where Donna spoke to the students in three different groups about living with a disability.  The students seemed to enjoy the visit. Most were fascinated with the fact that a handicapped person is able to drive and get around to do things in the community to help others.

In preparation for that visit, the students had read a book the week before called “Princess Poo” about a girl in a wheelchair.
