County assessment forms are due in the office of the county assessor by March 1, and May 1 is the final deadline for returning assessment forms.
Douglas County Assessor Alicia Miller-Degase said property owners who do not return their assessment form by May 1 are subject to penalty.
This penalty is set by Missouri statute and is not optional, Miller-Degase said.
Because May 1 falls on Sunday, late assessment forms will be accepted on May 2 without penalty this year.
Anyone who did not receive an assessment form in the mail, if you have lost your form, or if you need help in filling out the form, contact the Douglas County Assessor’s Office at 417-683-2829.
Penalties for not filing an assessment form are mandatory and statutes provide almost no discretion to waive penalties, Miller-Degase said.
