Opal Lois Taylor entered this earthly life May 13, 1933, in Gradeyville, Ky., in the home of her parents, John Buford and Lou Frances Sneed Humes. She was carried into the arms of Jesus on April 25, 2011, to meet her beloved husband, Austin, who had passed on to heaven April 24, 2005.
Opal’s life was like the beautiful embroidery which she loved to work on. Many events and people comprised the various patterns and colors to create her work of art, her life. She made little garments for the “Newborns In Need” as one way of showing her deep love for children. She was devoted to her family, both children and grandchildren. Her compassion for others was shown in the tenderness with which she cared for patients at the nursing home where she worked as a CAN. She loved to attend church services and as long as her health permitted was found attending bluegrass gospel concerts which had fiddles and banjos.
She enjoyed going to garage sales. But her favorite outing was to Silver Dollar City where she always wanted to ride the “Fire In the Hole.” Her God-given sense of humor was evident, even during her long illness.
Opal was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
Opal is survived by five sons and their wives: Vernon and Debby Taylor, Roger and Rebecca Taylor, Johnny Taylor, David Taylor and Steve and Diane Taylor; as well as one daughter and husband, Esther and Jerry Terry. She is also survived by many grandchildren and a number of great-grandchildren.
Also surviving are one brother, Norman Humes, and one sister, Thelma Venezia. In addition, she will also be deeply missed by her special caregivers at the Heart of the Ozarks Healthcare where she had resided for many years.
Funeral services for Opal will be conducted Friday, April 29, at 2 p.m. in the Ava Family Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Noel Scott and the Rev. Mark Hatcher officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Zion Cemetery.
A visitation will be hosted Thursday, April 28, from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Ava Family Funeral Home Chapel.
