Ava Kiwanis Club News

Our hearts are saddened due to the loss of our Vice President’s mother-in-law early on this Monday morning.  Our sympathies are with the family.  We also ask you to pray for Connie Cornelison who is fighting cancer.  Last week it was discovered that there is cancer in a hip and in her femur. She is facing possible surgery at some point.  In fact, a number of our club are having a variety of health issues.  Please pray for us!

Several were out of our meeting last week, so we are hopeful to have a full group this next week as we welcome Citizens of the Month from March and April.  Last month, scheduling conflicts made it impossible for those chosen to come, so we look forward to meeting with all of them this Thursday April 28 at noon at Highway House Cafe.

We have a speaker planned for our May 5 meeting as we observe Kiwanis Prayer Week.  We have invited Les Hallmark, pastor of Red Bank Church, to speak with us about the importance of prayer in our lives, even as we “serve the children of the world.”

Peanuts have been ordered in preparation for Kiwanis Peanut Day on May 28.  This is a big fundraiser for our club.  Our members will be at the intersection of 5 & 76 at 8-noon on that day giving peanuts to motorists who donate to our club.  Please know in advance that your donations will be used to fund projects we do right here in Ava such as Terrific Kids, Scholarships for Seniors, Christmas For Kids and more.  Thank you in advance for your generosity!

If you have a program to schedule, contact Donna Dixon at 683-1918.  For all other information about our club, contact Glenda Little at 683-6167.

Some of our other events this month include:

May 9 Terrific Kids at Ava Elementary 2:30.

May 10 Chamber Luncheon BBQ on the Square.

May 12 Foster Parent Dinner 5:30-8:30 Highway Nazarene Church.

May 26 Community Health Screening at United Methodist Church.

May 28 Kiwanis Peanut Day 8-noon.
