Guess which month is almost gone now? They sure don’t stay around very long do they? You’d never know what the date is by the weather. Over the weekend it got down to 30 degrees and really strong winds with rain and snow. The chimney on the house was pulling apart and about to fall off. A friend of the family has a construction business and was supposed to come and take the loose ones off for us because a few of them had rolled down the roof and onto the ground. When we had high winds before, we were afraid to do anything close to the house for fear one would fall off and hit us and injure or kill us. Well, the wind this weekend just about took care of them. There were bricks scattered all around the yard. Some were even inside the garage close to the car. There weren’t any holes in the garage but it looked like they had hit the ground and slid under the garage. It had moved the garage over some so we were out there working on that and it was so cold and windy I finally came in and put my winter coveralls on over my other clothes and still wasn’t really warm enough. And it blew a good-sized limb out of the big cedar tree in the back yard, but it was dead. And some small dead trees around the edge of the pasture out here came down. That’s just what I can see from my yard. I’m sure it did much more damage around the campground. Some more loose bricks up there look like they are about to fall down the chimney. That could be bad too because the furnace is vented up the chimney. I’ve got to check that out today. First I have to go to Tipton and get my yearly mammograms. So I hope that turns out okay. Of course, what wind damage we had here is minor compared to what they had in other states with all those tornadoes. That is just terrible. So much destroyed, including lives. We keep saying how lucky we are that we didn’t have that. It’s flooding all over the Quad Cities area. At first they thought it would be the worst ever, but I think they have changed their minds. On a lighter note, I would like to congratulate my nephew, Eddie Maggard, on winning the mayoral election. I’m so proud of him and always have been. I know he will do a good job. I’m proud of all my nieces and nephews. And also my kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids as well. Oh, yes, I can’t leave out my great-nieces and nephews. I just wish I could see them more than I do. I’ve heard they might have the Caudill reunion in Ava this year at my cousin Virgil’s house. They “might” (not sure yet). I’ve never been to one, but I think they let Maggards in too. HA. If they do have it in Ava, I sure do want to try to go. There are a lot of my second and third cousins I’ve never seen. And most of the first cousins I’ve seen has been at the funerals of my brother, sister and mother. And of course you don’t have much time to talk at funerals. It rained again last night and is supposed to rain everyday this week. The Robins are happy. I saw them out first thing this morning looking for worms. Walt saw a little hummingbird out here one day when it was warm. There was an empty feeder on the porch and it went up to it trying to get nectar. So I made some and Walt put it in a new feeder and hung it out under one of the trees where we put them in the summer, but the wind has been swinging the feeder so hard I don’t think the hummer could have lit on it if it tried. I’m afraid the wind might have blown it away. Writing this is making me so sleepy I can’t stay awake, so I better say bye-bye for now.
