MoDOT Offers Ways To Avoid Feeling Pain at the Pump

JEFFERSON CITY – With gas prices predicted to climb to $4 a gallon, the Missouri Department of Transportation is reminding motorists of a few ways they can help ease the pain they’re feeling at the pump.

One way to save gas money is to carpool.  MoDOT offers more than 6,700 free parking spaces for commuters at 115 lots statewide.  A map showing commuter lots throughout the state can be found at http://www.modot.mo.gov/services/Commuters/CommuterLotsMap.htm

MoDOT’s commuter information website, Carpool Connections, includes a web-based ride-matching service known as iCarpool that can help match drivers with fellow carpoolers.  The site, located at http://www.modot.org/services/CarpoolConnections.htm, provides all the information you need to find someone going your direction who wants to share the ride.

Another good source of carpooling information is Missouri Dept. of Natural Resources’ Division of Energy, which offers information about carpooling programs at www.dnr.mo.gov/energy/transportation/ridemap.htm.

The site includes links to RideFinders, which covers the St. Louis region; Rideshare, the commuter resource center serving the Kansas City and mid-Missouri areas; and OzarksCommmute, the Southwest Missouri area commuter resource center.
