Hazardous Materials Pickup May 7 At County Shed on FF

The South Central Solid Waste Management District will hold a free collection for various types of “hazardous” materials here on Saturday, May 7.

Items and materials that will be accepted at the collection site at the County Shed on Highway FF just east of Ava will include latex and oil based paints, aerosol cans, used motor oil, antifreeze, rechargeable, vehicle and button batteries, pesticides and herbicides.

Also to be collected will be old computers, microwaves, and televisions.

Initially, the district was going to charge for televisions, but another disposal site was located so now no fee will be necessary.

The collection site will be open from 9 a.m. to 12 noon.

This collection is for households only, and no containers larger than five gallons will be accepted. If you have large quantities to dispose of, you are asked to call 417-932-5345.

This and all collections of the Solid Waste Management District are open to residents of the seven counties which include Douglas, Howell, Oregon, Ozark, Shannon, Texas and Wright.

Other area collections will be held in the area as follows:

April 23 in West Plains, at the Transfer Station.

April 30 – National Drug Take Back Day.

May 14 in Mtn. Grove at the city maintenance shed on Highway 95.

May 21 in Licking at the city maintenance shed on Prescott Road.

May 28 in Willow Springs at the parking lot by Booster Field.

All collection sites will be open from 9 a.m. to 12 noon.

Funding for these collections comes from the solid waste tipping fee fund collected by the Missouri Department of Natural Resources. For more information you may contact the South Central Solid Waste Management District at 417-932-5345.
