Structures Burn In Douglas County

Destructive fires have been reported in Douglas County during the past week, and some of them are suspicious in nature.

Phil Rhoades said a cabin he was building himself east of Ava in the Brushyknob area burned recently. Because there was no electricity in the building, Rhoades believes the fire was set.

He also reported that items were stolen from the two-story structure that he was constructing as a store building.

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Department said the incident is under investigation.

The building is located about 10 miles east of Ava on Highway 76, just west of Bryant Creek.

It is also reported that a barn on the Gary Linck property on Turkey Creek east of Ava was destroyed by fire Saturday morning.

Linck said the barn and all equipment stored inside were lost despite efforts of the Ava Rural Fire Department.

Skyline Fire Department answered a call for a structure fire Wednesday morning that required mutual aid assistance from Eastern Douglas County and Ava Rural fire departments.

The State Fire Marshal’s office has been called to investigate that fire.
